Edwina McClure

She was an exceptional woman who never missed an opportunity to share a smile, a hug, and a story. She was part of a generation of strong-willed individuals who carved out amazing lives from the humblest of beginnings. Edwina was a corporate secretary for many years with the L&N railroad. She was an active member in the ministries of Victory Memorial Baptist Church, where she served with close friends. With a fearless and determined sprit, Wina traveled the world at a time when a young single woman was expected to be quiet and reserved. She married her high school sweetheart after reuniting at her 50th high school reunion, entering into a 25 year love story. Her example in life, love, and faith touched every soul she encountered and lives on as an enduring legacy in her family who loved her so dearly.

  1. My Aunt Wina was always there for me. She was a beautiful example of how to live a life of faith. Her generosity knew no bounds. She never knew a stranger and her joy was contagious. She will continue to inspire me for the rest of my life.

    • I have known Edwina since I was a child, when her Aunt Della married my grandfather, Ben Dalton. Edwina and my mother became very close, and I was reunited with her when she developed cancer, and Mom talked her into coming to MD Anderson in Houston, where I lived. We were fortunate to have her stay with us on occasion, and we saw firsthand how her courage and faith steered her through her illness. We watched with joy when she reunited with Leroy and married him – what a love story! She was a sweet, strong, faithful, wonderful person, and we loved her – may she rest in peace in the arms of her Lord.
